According to Rockstar Games , GTA 6 map will be about twice as large as GTA 5 map and three times as large as the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. But there is an even more interesting fact: the total land area of the new game is almost equal to the total area of the game territories of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. The developers told this in an interview with Edge magazine.
Rockstar is betting not only on the size of the open world, but also on its detail. Co-head of the studio Aaron Garbut noted that GTA 6 will have an order of magnitude more interiors available for exploration than in any previous game from the company.
According to him, even the smallest alleys will have their own atmosphere and details. Players will be able to explore a wide variety of corners of the world, and almost every location will have something interesting. Garbut also admitted that over the years of development, he still hasn't had time to personally see all the places the team has created for the game.
During the interview, the developer also spoke about the immense pressure the team is feeling. After all, fans have been waiting for GTA 6 for over 13 years and have extremely high expectations.

“We can’t just offer something predictable or take the easiest path. We didn’t compromise on scale, detail, interactivity, story, or open world. I feel like we built a pyramid on top of Everest,” Garbut shared.

GTA 6 will be released on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S . Given the scale of the game world and the amount of detail, it's no surprise that the game will have a huge file size. In addition, according to preliminary information, GTA 6 Online could appear as early as 2027.
