Rockstar calls Leonida "the sunshine state" and describes Vice City as "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America". The state's name, beaches, swamps and island chain all echo Florida, the same inspiration behind the original Vice City. That comparison is our reading of the setting, not an official statement.
| Place | What we know officially |
|---|---|
| Vice City | The neon-lit main city. Characters such as Boobie Ike run their businesses here. |
| Leonida Keys | An island chain where Jason worked for local drug runners and where Brian Heder keeps his boat yard. |
| Grassrivers | Named as an explorable region on the official site. |
| Port Gellhorn | Named as an explorable region on the official site. |
| Ambrosia | Named as an explorable region on the official site. |
| Mount Kalaga | Named as an explorable region on the official site. |
| Leonida Penitentiary | The prison where Lucia served time. |
Rockstar has not yet published details for every region, so this table will grow as more is revealed.
Rockstar staff have said the map is roughly twice the size of GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County, both in the Extended Look video and in a Game Informer preview. Rockstar's Aaron Garbut called it the largest map the studio has made "by some degree". There is still no official square-mile figure, so fan-made maps assembled from trailers remain educated guesses.
Once the game is out we will build verified location guides here: collectibles, points of interest and how to get around, using our own in-game screenshots.
