Rockstar Games seems to be preparing for Grand Theft Auto 6 not just another story about crime, money and the struggle for power. Judging by new details published in Edge Magazine, the main goal of Jason and Lucia may not be to get rich at all, but to try to escape from the criminal world and build a future together. Such an approach can make the plot GTA 6 more personal and will be noticeably different from what we have seen in previous parts of the series.

While Rockstar has gradually revealed many details about GTA 6 — from criminal mechanics to NPC behavior — the game's plot still remains one of the biggest mysteries. The studio is reluctant to reveal exactly what challenges await the main characters, but a major interview and an article in Edge Magazine shed a little more light on their motivations.
According to the details released, Jason and Lucia's ultimate goal is to leave a life of crime behind, which is a pretty interesting shift in focus for the Grand Theft Auto series, where money, influence, and material possessions have traditionally played a major role in motivating characters.
In GTA 5, for example, the stories of the three protagonists largely revolved around wealth, power, and personal ambition. In the case of GTA 6, Rockstar seems to want to focus on something different: what do Jason and Lucia really want and how do they see their future?

Studio head Rob Nelson noted that many players perceive Grand Theft Auto as a kind of fantasy about power, opportunity and unlimited freedom. However, for the new protagonists, money does not seem to be an end in itself.
Of course, the financial side of the criminal life is not going away. Earning money remains an important part of the characters' motivation, but there are much greater desires behind it. Jason and Lucia want to get something out of life than just another big haul after a successful robbery.
Nelson also drew parallels with Red Dead Redemption 2, where Rockstar has explored similar moral and personal conflicts, most notably in the story of Arthur Morgan, who is constantly faced with the choice of spending the money he earns on his own needs or using it to help other gang members.
It seems like GTA 6 will continue to develop this idea, but through the story of two people whose personal relationships and shared plans may turn out to be more important than wealth.

Rockstar seems to be paying special attention to the relationships between the main characters. At the start of the game, Jason and Lucia are already together and, according to Edge Magazine, they want to give their relationship another chance.
Their couple has been compared to Bonnie and Clyde, the famous criminal duo who were one of the main inspirations for the characters. However, it seems that Rockstar is not going to limit itself to the story of two criminals in love who rob stores and run from the police together.
What's much more interesting is what happens between them when the guns are lowered, the chase is over, and another case is left behind? Will they be able to build a normal relationship, trust each other, and ultimately abandon their criminal past?
This is where one of the most interesting storylines GTA 6 may lie. After all, the desire to start a new life is one thing, but the real opportunity to do so, when both characters are already deeply involved in the criminal world, is quite another.

Rockstar has yet to reveal how Jason and Lucia's story will end or whether they will be able to achieve their goal. Given the traditions of the series, it is unlikely that the path to a peaceful life will be easy. Their decisions, past actions, and new circumstances may well constantly return the couple to the world from which they are trying to escape.
Personally, I like this direction. After the stories of Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, it's interesting to see how Rockstar will reveal two characters for whom a shared future may be more important than money. And if the studio manages to work out their relationship as well as it did with the characters in Red Dead Redemption 2, we could be in for one of the most interesting storylines in GTA history.
